Thing 23
If you have read any of this blog, you will have an idea of how relieved I am to be finished. I should have titled my blog "Reluctant Blogger". If I had only known! I am amazed how much information I have accumulated and how many new ideas I've been exposed to. I've learned a few new tricks and that's saying a lot.
Thing 22
Here I am supposed to resolve to keep up with Web 2.0 and Library 2.0. I'm sure that would be a wise resolution, but I'm resolving to go back and try to figure out where I went wrong with some of the first 23. If nothing else, I am persistant and will keep trying to resolve my video addition problem. Maybe I will continue to blog, but at this point, I will not make much of a vlogger.

Visit 23 Things on a Stick
">This is the way my badge looks. I got almost as many error messages on this Thing as I did on Thing 18. I also had problems uploading videos (Really?!?) I was able to leave comments with out any problems, so at this point I'm blaming my computer . Of course, I am not a member of any other online communities. I'm still perfedting e-mail! If it were not for 23 Things, I would not even be aware that such things exist.

Thing 20
I signed up for facebook 3 days ago and still haven't recieved my confirmation e-mail. So I'm stuck for now and will try to move on to Thing 21. I finally got my confirmation and now I am on Facebook. Being the coward that I am, I limited my privacy as much as possible. I joined a crocheting group as I have been busily creating baby items in various colors for my newly-pregnant daughter. I enjoyed looking at the library My Space sites. They were a bit more exciting than our "home page", but I think most of the information is similar. If our library wants to "jazz up" our homepage, I hope they don"t ask me to help!!

Thing 19
I listened to a CBC Comedy Factory podcast called "Could You Repeat That?" from April 10, 2008. I found it amusing and entertaining. I found the Podcast.com the easiest site to navigate. I got a bit lost at Yahoo. After my fiasco with Thing 18 I have no interest whatsoever in creating or trying podcasting. O.K., well MAYBE with a LOT of help and some really knowlegeable partners.

Thing 18
You Tube was quite interesting to view, although I would not be interested in putting my stuff out there. I did enjoy several videos, but encountered LOTS of problems trying to upload them to my blog. I kept getting a message that the "tag was broken." I have no idea what this means and frankly I can not spend any more time trying to figure this out. After 4 hours of trying I still have had no success. I thought I had it once, but got this message: PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED (no kidding!) I also got a blog ID and a video ID. Sorry, but I am through with thing 18!
Thing 17
Already I am in trouble. I don't understand ANY of the directions, so I will return to this post after I can consult with someone who knows more than I do.

Thing 16
I found a lot of very useful and interesting tools in Thing Sixteen. Where were these tools many MANY years ago when I was doing research projects? Back in "my day" using calculators was considered cheating and computers were not available. I can understand students (and teachers) finding these tools very useful.
Thing 15
Thing Fifteen was another challenge for this tired blogger. I was unable to successfully download the pirate game on my work computer. I'm not a computer game player to begin with, so I was not disappointed. Personally, I find computer games to be a total waste of time. I watched the video of Second Life and could only think: What's the use of this???
Thing 14
Thing Fourteen: All about Library Thing. I set up my account and easily added five books to my list. An added bonus was that I found several new books by some of my favorite authors that I was not aware were coming out. Now I will be on the lookout for them. I could see the library using this tool to compile lists of patrons favorite books. Now we print out "suggested reading" lists for children of various ages. This would be a way to gather some patron input.http://www.librarything.com/catalog/rkleva
Thing 13
Thing 13: I chose to use the yahoo page, mostly (to be honest) because I could manage it without signing up for another service. I still feel rather uncomfortable having my name ane e-mail adress all over the web. I suppose it will be my permanent home page in as much as I HAVE a home page. I find the new lay out I chose to be easier to use than previously. As for on-line calendars, I find them cumbersome and rather unhandy; probably because I have limited computer acess. I'm an "old dog" when it comes to using paper and pencil to make to-do lists and can not forsee myself changing at this late date.

Thing 12
Very interesting, this twelfth Thing. I'm not sure how I woould be using these tools at work. I can see using them to browse the news or check some for comic relief, but I think in my case these websites would definitely detract from my productivity at work. I think they are still a valuable tool for assessing public opinion and determining the public mind-set.
Thing 11
Thing 11. Exploring Del.icio.us was very interesting. I went back and tagged my posts. There was much interesting informantion in the video, and I can understand where tags can help in researching and referencing.

Thing 10
Thing Ten..... This "thing" was a bit more familiar to me as we have a staff Wiki that I am used to navigating. I can see where this is very helpful and useful. I played around in the Wiki sandbox to get a feel for editing and adding items. As for banning Wikipedia, I can understand the necessity if items are being changed and altered in context.
Thing 9
Thing nine put the fun back in 23 things. I found Google Docs easier to use. I also really enjoyed the editing done to the founding fathers document. All they needed was a bunch of librarians to help them. Bet they are rolling around in their respective graves about now.

Thing 8
PictureTrail - Online Photo Sharing, Personal Homepages, Slideshows, Image Hosting I hope this is a link to my "slide show." At this point I am not sure what is where . This post has been an exercise in frustration for me. I can understand where it should have been fun, but I got stuck in the "mosaic maker" and could not get past setting the border and background colors. After six tries I gave up and signed up for yet another account and got this far with a slideshow. I'm sure it should have come out better than this, but at this point I'm willing to settle for this. If I had to do this sort of thing for a living I would have to have LOTS of training or find another job. I will certainly never qualify for a member of the Geek Squad!
